WS Foundation Grant - Covid 19 Response

The Twenty COVID-19 RESPONSE TEAM

There was mounting evidence to suggest that test kits were not the preventive strategy to fight the COVID-19 because there were no test-kits available in bulk to the citizens of the city of Winston-Salem in general, and East Winston in particular.  The Twenty was determined, based on our data, that the next most crucial step in the absence of test kits is prevention.

The COVID-19 RESPONSE TEAM was created by The Twenty to distribute general purpose sanitation and disinfectant kits at fifteen (15) distribution sites in the City of Winston Salem.  The kits contained: a thermometer, a spray bottle, hand sanitizer, non- latex gloves, and face masks. The starting goal was to distribute 10,000, and the goal was exceeded to the total distributions being 12,000. Low Income

Distribution Masks & Kits distribution totaled 7680 and were distributed to the following communities:

Piedmont Circle, Cleveland Avenue, The Oaks, Stoney Glen, Townview, Camden Station, Happy Hill Gardens, Boston Thurman, Sunrise Towers, Crystal Towers, Healy Towers, Masonic Temple site on 14th Street, Empty lot on Willie Davis Drive, East Winston Shopping Center, Boston-Thurman Area

The next step of the prevention strategy was to provide COVID-19 Testing site development, procurement and finding as well as and site management, which includes traffic flow, decontamination kit distribution, food distribution, Tent set-up, site support, case management and clean-up.

Masking the CITY with Love Out Loud

The Twenty then partnered with Love Out Loud, in the Mask the City Campaign which allowed us to add a more durable mask to our kits, and we connected with following community partners and supporters and distributed more than 4,800 kits:
