Minority Health Education and Outreach Campaign

The Twenty developed a community messaging “Minority Health Education and Outreach Campaign” in collaboration with Greater Gift, the Forsyth County Health Department, Novant Health and Wake Forest Baptist Hospital.  This collaboration also included Community Based Organizations and its leaders to educate and show a united front to build trust and genuine support for their fears and lack of trust that ran deep. This was critical!!!

The Twenty Street Team comprised 10 people including a Project Director, Assistant Director, which became a new concept of outreach during the COVID-19.  The Twenty team collaborated directly with The Forsyth County Health Department to outreach to cover over (108) different communities in Winston Salem Forsyth County.  The Winston Salem Transit Authority Bus Station and Winston Salem Housing Authority sites were frequented.  Information distributed

Community Ambassadors were identified and developed from grassroots residence to carry the message of trust and care into their sphere of influence. By equipping them with accurate information this helped to provide a trusted source to people in the community desiring to make competent healthcare decisions.

Community Ambassadors-agreed to be vaccinated in the senior assisted living facilities and frequented facilities at Housing Authority Winston Salem.  Some examples would be D Martin “I am so glad to get the right information, didn’t know whether to get vaccinated or not but so glad I did” and F. Carpenter “Because of the encouragement I was glad to get vaccinated, if not for them I would not be Vaccinated and have already declined.  I found out from the Twenty how important it was to be vaccinated.”

Chisholm, S. Sharon-Fairchild, Lewis & Libby-25th Street, C. Carpenter-22nd Street, Ms. Rush-Sunrise Towers, N. Dunlap-Happy Hill Gardens, A. Reynolds-Slater Community, T Lewis-Castle Heights.

Mental Health-was done as collaboration with mental health services, primarily done from an advocacy standpoint at community events, some referrals were made.

Transportation was provided for the street team and others in need on an as needed basis.  This included trips to COVID-19 Testing sites, COVID-19 Vaccination sites and Community Garden activities.

The Twenty provided an outreach campaign involving social media, (website, twitter, Facebook, etc.) in connection and coordination with the boots on the ground Street Team in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County with a heavy concentration in East Winston.  The Twenty Posted ambassador comments, street team locations, vaccination sites and local testimonies.
